Volunteer Probation Officers (VPO) are community volunteers that mentor and supervise adjudicated teens helping them increase their resilience to risk.
The VPO program is housed in our Juvenile Speciality Services Building at
515 Oak St. Ste, D, Conway, AR 72034.
Being a VPO means giving of yourself to troubled youth in the juvenile court system. This is an opportunity to show an at risk youth that someone cares, perhaps for the first time. VPOs gain knowledge on the juvenile justice system and a feeling of accomplishment for helping those in need.
VPOs:
* Provide individualized supervision & couseling to probationer
* Make proper referrals to help with probationer's treatment and rehabilitation
* Provide family guidance
* Provide motivation a& educational experiences
* Develop community awareness of juvenile justice issues
* Provide positive outlook on educational experience
Qualifications:
* Be 20 years of age or college Jr./Sr.
* Communication Skills
* Positive outlook on youth and education
* Appreciation for diversity
* No criminal convictions
* Volunteer's own child not currently in juvenile justice system
* 6 month minimum commitment
* Attend orientation and quarterly meetings
* Work a minimum of 1 hour per week on case
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
