Why do Judges wear black robes?
There is some disagreement as to why Judges in the United States wear black robes. The wearing of robes by Judges dates back to England. Judges traditionally wore red robes until the death of Queen Anne in 1714, at which time they switched to black robes as a symbal of mourning. The robe is considered a reminder of the knowledge, education, law and a symbol of neutrality.
